I think I found my feet on this one.

Strangers.  Not us, therefore viewed as dangerous just to be safe.  This is an issue that our ancestors dealt with, and we still deal with it today.  How can we trust someone we don't know?  We want to believe that everyone is just as nice and altruistic as ourselves.  Unfortunately, there are those failures (or super successful, depending on your point of view) examples of humanity that use that way of thinking to try and pull a fast one over their fellow man to the detriment of all.

Why does this happen?

やっと足場が見つかったと思います。

見知らぬ人たち。自分たちではないので、安全のために危険だとみな
されます。これは先祖が取り組んできた問題であり、今でもこの問題
に悩まれています。知らない人をどうやって信頼できるのでしょう
か？誰もが私たちと同じように優しくて利他的であると信じたいので
す。残念なことに、人類の中には、その考え方を使って、仲間を騙し
て全員に損害を与えようとする人間失格（見方によっては超成功例）
も存在します。

なぜこのようなことが起こるのでしょうか?
