It's hard to imagine a greater tool for keeping people alive than antibiotics. Fleming's work with penicillin has saved countless thousands from sickness, amputations, and death because of minor cuts that get infected. We can even buy antibacterial cremes from the local drug store. A thousand years ago, that would be certifiable magic! Pasteur and Koch, even before Fleming, witnessed a bacillus bacteria killing its cousin anthrax. There are some amazing things that we can derive antibiotics from! I just hope we don't accidentally create any more superbugs from our overuse and willy nilly prescribing of anibiotics for any minor bugs or prevention. They really should be used as last resorts because of their take no prisoners approach to bacterial extermination.
