Some of my students and I are still on a space kick after Perseverence's successful landing, that I'll keep it up .
Pioneer 10 was launched today in 1972 to get a good look at Jupiter. After giving us some good pictures of the largest planet and its moons, Pioneer 10 became the first manmade object to leave the Solar System in 1983. Unfortunately, we lost contact with probe in 2003.
On another cool note, Pioneer 10 was one of the first probes to use a chunck of radioactive plutonium to power its systems!
